Michael Barnes writes about the people, places, culture and history of Austin. The Texas native grew up in Houston and graduated from the University of Houston with a degree in drama and history before earning his Ph.D in theater history and criticism from the University of Texas at Austin.
Barnes has written for the Austin American-Statesman since 1989 and has many awards, including the 2016 Liz Carpenter Lifetime Achievement Award from Women Communicators of Austin. His work is available in book form through the five-volume "indelible Austin" series, which is drawn from his newspaper columns.
