Lawrence Temple: Name, Image and Likeness (NIL)
About the program:
After various US Supreme Court cases and new laws enacted by states, in 2021, the NCAA began allowing college athletes to profit off of their name, image, and likeness. While changes were to be expected, no one could foresee the dramatic changes that were coming to college athletics.
Lawrence Temple attended the University of Texas – both as an undergraduate, where he obtained a BBA, and in law school where he graduated with honors and served on the Texas Law Review. After law school, he clerked on the US Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, and then served as a staff attorney as part of the US Department of Justice’s Honors Program. In private practice, he has focused on corporate law and entertainment and sports law. He was in-house general counsel of Capital Sports & Entertainment, LLC, which spun off two other companies – C3 Presents, LLC and C3 Management, LLC. He is currently a partner with Almanza, Blackburn, Dickie, & Mitchell. His clients include C3 Presents, LLC, which produces, among other things, the NFL Draft, Austin City Limits Music Festival, and Lollapalooza Music Festival. Through his clients, Mr. Temple has represented NFL players, Major League Baseball Players, Lance Armstrong, professional golfers, race car drivers, and musicians. Beginning in 2024, he is serving as an adjunct professor at the University of Texas Law School teaching a course on Name, Image, and Likeness. He currently serves on the Austin Music Foundation board and the University of Texas Development Board, and, in the past, has served on numerous other boards, including the Texas Exes (the alumni association of the University of Texas), West Austin Youth Association, and St. Andrew’s Episcopal School.
