Immigration in America: Policies & Stories

What is the state of immigration in America? Where we were and where we are headed? Pooja Sethi will shed light on how recent policy changes have impacted the lives of real people. We'll also hear her first-hand accounts of what is really happening in Texas' detention centers.

About Our Speaker:

Pooja Sethi, Esq. is an Immigration Attorney, CEO of the Law Offices of Pooja Sethi, PLLC, and Founder of the nonprofit "Immigration For All". Pooja is an Attorney who not only takes on cases, but she advocates for each and every Immigrant in her Community. She has given talks to the Community about the latest Immigration trends and know your rights seminar. She has taken on numerous pro bono Immigration cases including cases that affect women of domestic abuse and humanitarian cases, speaks on Immigration Policy at UT Austin, volunteered with American Gateways taking asylum LGBT cases, and has helped numerous women start their businesses and given them advice and talks around the country. Her latest advocacy has involved going to the Pearsall Detention Center to fight ICE on behalf of immigration students who fell victim to a fake University created by the Department of Homeland Security.

Pooja has been featured on FOX News, KEYE News, Spectrum News, and recognized for her work by Congressmen, and TX State House Representatives. She advocates in Austin for the rights of Immigrants, women who suffer domestic abuse, translation of languages in our jails and with the police, and a more inclusive city for all. She recently received the Emmitt Till Award from the Syracuse College of Law for her Immigration work with detained clients, and advocacy with Texas Legislatures and elected officials. The fight for Immigration reform is not a job, it is her passion, and she hopes that everyone joins in this fight to create better Immigration reform that helps people live in peace and without fear.
